A Poem for Friendship Day

Check the mirrors
Break the mirrors
Break them I say.
This isn’t the optical illusion I was seeking.
We were laterally inverted
Remember?
Our breaths had shared a rhythm
And the mirrors had shaken.
Break them I say.
Break them mirrors and clocks.
My enemy was a version of me
My enemy was grander than this!

The mirrors must shake at our collision
Not crack slowly in agony.
I am entitled to the grand battles
I have massaged for long
Warpaint
And flexed my muscles
For this?
And no
I want my grand battleground
I want soldiers and martyrs and heaving widows
Not this
Not this triumph over
a broken enemy.

My enemy was grander than this.
